Our dedicated leadership team brings together years of youth football experience, combining a diverse range of skills and expertise to foster an environment of growth and development. Ensuring that all of our teams follow our governance and policies is a top priority, while we continuously work to provide oversight and accountability at every level of the organization. We understand that these principles are essential in creating a solid foundation for our players’ success. Keeping the safety and welfare of our players at the forefront of everything we do is paramount; we actively implement training programs, regular assessments, and open lines of communication to ensure that their needs are met and that they feel supported both on and off the field. With a focus on fostering teamwork, respect, and fair play, we aim to cultivate not only skilled athletes but also responsible individuals who will contribute positively to their community.

Dean Nelson

Club Chairman. Dean became chairman in 2021 and since then, under his leadership, the club has gone from strength to strength. Becoming a more professional and cohesive unit, the club has not only improved profesionally but has also established a solid foundation for future growth. Dean has emphasised the importance of cultivating a winning mentality, where diligence and teamwork are valued above all. This shift has encouraged players to push their limits and strive for excellence, while also fostering strong relationships both on and off the field. Furthermore, Dean has initiated various community links aimed at engaging and giving back to the local area, which has helped bolster the club’s reputation. Ultimately, his unwavering commitment to the club’s success continues to inspire everyone involved, from the players to the dedicated volunteers who remain at the heart of the club’s mission.

Clare Tyler

Welfare Officer. Clare serves as our Welfare Officer and the lead for safeguarding initiatives, playing a crucial role in promoting the well-being of our young athletes. Her extensive experience in child protection and welfare equips her with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop and successfully implement frameworks that prioritise the safety of our children. Throughout her tenure, Clare has diligently worked to create a safe and nurturing environment, fostering trust and open communication among players, parents, and club officials. As our dedicated liaison with Herts FA, Clare is in an optimal position to ensure that all initiatives and best practices are adhered to by every member of the club. She actively monitors compliance and is committed to addressing any issues that arise in accordance with child safeguarding guidelines. Clare’s proactive approach and unwavering commitment to child welfare underscore the club’s mission to not only develop talented athletes but to also ensure their safety and emotional well-being. Daniel Altabas

Club Secretary. Dan has been with the club for a number of years, bringing a wealth of knowledge and dedication to his role. Currently, he manages 2 teams, overseeing not only their administrative needs but also ensuring that they have all the support they require to thrive both on and off the pitch. As our club secretary, Dan serves as our vital liaison to the leagues that our teams compete in, effectively translating their requirements and expectations to our coaches and teams. His extensive experience in working with the leagues allows us to navigate the complexities of grassroots football, ensuring that our teams adhere to all league rules while fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and integrity. Through Dan’s meticulous attention to detail and commitment to excellence, we can confidently maintain the reputation of A.F.C Walkern at a high level, inspiring both current players and future talents to aspire to our club’s values and ambitions.

Peter Gregory

Club Treasurer. Pete’s role as treasurer for the club ensures that the club not only stays financially stable but also has the ability to invest any profit back into our teams, without stretching the means of the club. This critical position requires him to meticulously manage the club’s budget, track all expenses and income. Pete actively seeks out additional funding opportunities, such as sponsorships and grants, which allows the club to enhance its facilities and resources. His dedication and financial acumen have fostered a culture of transparency and accountability, giving members confidence in how their contributions are utilised for the growth and success of our teams. Additionally, Pete’s ability to negotiate better deals with suppliers helps to further optimize the club’s financial health, ensuring we remain competitive and well-equipped to support our players.
