We understand that you may have questions, and we’re here to help. Below are some of the commonly asked questions we receive. If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to Contact Us. We’re always ready to assist you.

When is Training?
Our teams train on different days, so the best way to find out whether training would fit your schedule, is to Contact Us
That said, all of our teams train in the Walkern and Stevenage areas with most using Nobel School on a Tuesday night (during winter training).
Our Academy also train at Nobel School on Monday nights.
What level of commitment is required?
Fixtures for our teams are guided by the leagues we are proud to be a part of, but you can always count on at least 1 hour of invigorating training and 1 exciting weekend match each week, aligning perfectly with the school term schedule.
As a developmental club, we are fervent about nurturing talent, and we seek players who are wholeheartedly dedicated to their training. While we understand that other commitments may occasionally hinder your child’s attendance at a session, it’s crucial to recognise that those who commit to regular practice will undoubtedly reap the rewards come match day.
Can girls play?
Absolutely! We are thrilled to have a dedicated girls’ team and are excited to expand that number! Girls can actively participate in mixed teams in youth football up to the U16 age group.
AFC Walkern is a welcoming club that embraces equal opportunities, and we are dedicated to providing football for everyone!
My child is new to football or very experienced, will they fit in?
AFC Walkern is a welcoming club for all, and unlike other clubs in the area, we are excited to offer every child a chance to join without the pressure of ‘Trials’ for a place. The only consideration is the number of teams we currently have, so we encourage you to have a friendly conversation with the manager of the team your child would potentially play for. Please Contact Us to learn more and become part of our fantastic community!
What does my registration get me?
Should you decide that AFC Walkern is the right club for your child and you, when you register with us, that cost covers-
All Herts FA and League registration fees.
All Training sessions throughout the season.
All AFC Walkern Playing Kit (Home and Away) excluding Boots/Shinpads.
Can you Pay & Play?
If your child is not ready to play for a team, we have our partner academy, Inspired Football Academy, who offer casual training with no commitment. It is a great way to introduce your child to football in a pressure-free, fun and inclusive way.
Our partnership with Inspired Football Academy also gives us a great place to grow newly forming teams to give them guiadance before they look to join one of Hertfordshire’s Grassroots Leagues.

How do I get into Coaching?
Most grassroots coaches come from parents wanting to help coach their child’s team or from young adults taking their first steps into coaching. At AFC Walkern, we’re aware that coaches are in short supply, and we’re here to support and develop passionate people starting this journey. We will assist you in learning and completing your FA Qualifications, and if you coach one of our teams, we will reimburse your costs. We provide session plans, tips, guidance, and help with admin tasks like booking facilities and dealing with leagues. AFC Walkern’s coaches have a wealth of grassroots football experience, all having taken that first step into the unknown.
